NASDAQ's Market Share in NYSE-Listed Securities Hits Record Highs

The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. (NASDAQ) (Nasdaq: NDAQ )  announced its consolidated market performance statistics for the NASDAQ Market Center for the month of August.

NASDAQ's matched market share of all U.S. Equity share volume was a record 30.4% in August 2007, more than any other U.S. exchange for the fourth consecutive month. NASDAQ's matched volume in all U.S. securities was a record 51.8 billion shares, an increase from 38.9 billion in July 2007 and from 27.5 billion in August 2006.

During August, NASDAQ's handled market share in NASDAQ-listed securities was 75.1%(1) and matched market share in NASDAQ-listed securities was 48.4%.

NASDAQ's matched market share in NYSE-listed securities in August was a record 19.3%, up from 17.5% in July 2007 and 12.5% in August 2006. NASDAQ's handled market share in NYSE-listed securities was 53.6% last month(2).

NASDAQ's total reported market share of all U.S. ETF volume in August was 52.1%(3), with a record 12.6 billion shares changing hands.

Included in NASDAQ's handled and total reported share in August for all U.S.-listed, NASDAQ-listed, NYSE-listed, and ETF securities are average daily volumes of 1.3 billion, 508 million, 657 million, and 165 million shares, respectively, reported to the FINRA/NASDAQ Trade Reporting Facility.

For the month, NASDAQ achieved total reported market share of over 30% in 425 NYSE-listed companies priced over $10 with average daily trading volume of more than 1 million shares.

It is home to companies that are leaders across all areas of business including technology, retail, communications, financial services, transportation, media and biotechnology. NASDAQ is the primary market for trading NASDAQ-listed stocks as well as a leading liquidity pool for trading NYSE-listed stocks.
